All faculty, staff, and students (as well as sponsored affiliates) have records in the University Directory. Those records contain the standard office and telephone contact information as well as user ID and password information.
Visit password.umd.edu to learn more about the Directory password.
The University of Maryland Directory uses a technology called Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). LDAP is an industry standard for organizing data of all kinds for easy and flexible retrieval. The Directory might be referred to by IT professionals as the LDAP Directory.
UMD applications are increasingly being designed to use the Directory for information as well as user ID and password verification.
